πThe lack of employment opportunities in Kenya has left
many, especially the youths pondering what to do to earn a living. Tarmacking
becomes the order of the day. It becomes fruitless efforts To help the youths,
especially the many from higher learning institutions, the government has a
site where the youths can be trained and acquire online employment. I urge them
to join AJIRA for employment.
Ajira
is a learning platform in which the learner learns virtually. They learn mainly
from freelancing. This a good learning platform where most youths learn online,
and eventually acquire skills to work online. With Ajira, a
government-sponsored program, no more tarmacking hopelessly. Our youths can get
a good smooth economical transition from schools, colleges, and universities to
self-employment.
In
Ajira learning, the learner needs either a smartphone, or a desktop, a laptop,
an effective network, and data bundles to enroll in the program of one’s choice.
No fees are required!
The
long-lived Harambee Spirit was well applied some years back when development
was realised countrywide. Many learning institutions and medical facilities
today are products of Harambee Spirit.
Able
Kenyans, of goodwill, can in Harambee Spirit, come up with platforms similar to
Ajira, to sponsor many school leavers to acquire online skills, for employment.
Our youths need directions. They need support to qualify for their education. Some
of them have degrees, and certificates but are jobless. Unfortunately, our
education system does not adequately prepare school leavers for employment.
Curriculum, Next To Employment
Calling
for voluntary sponsors, may not be sufficiently adequate. Apart from the
initiative from the government through Ajira, much more needs to be done.
Ajira, being an adult entry program, should be embraced by the Ministry of
Education, as a value-added initiative.
Online,
employment preparation should be put in place as from our primary schools'
classes. It is as simple as teaching life skills in primary schools. It can be
rolled wisely as a theory lesson in primary schools. No gadgets, data bundles,
and internet are needed at this level, the last two classes before primary
level exit. It should be basic, easy, and well presented being introductory.
This online learning should then be practically introduced in secondary school
classes. Here, the use of gadgets, data bundles, and the internet is put into
use. It should not be an examinable subject, but, life skills learning,
preparing students for employment after school.
The
success of digital learning in schools comes with handfuls of successes. These
benefits are to the learner, parent, community, and nation. In a bigger scope,
there shall be benefits globally. The unemployment problems shall be solved.
Most problems that accompany unemployment such as drug abuse, unwanted
pregnancies, early marriages, and general crime will reduce drastically.
When
our youths acquire employment, the economy will grow, there will be peace, and
both mental and medical health shall improve. We would also expect marriages to
increase and survive with healthy children.
